Race Report June 16
The Academy’s under-23 boys had a good outing at the Stourbridge CC round of the National under-23 series at Welland in Worcestershire, the venue for the club’s road race back in March. At the end of a fast but disjointed race – with a half-hour interruption while the race paramedics caught up after a crash – all five were present in the main bunch of 50 for the finish climb up to Hollybush church.

Here the field finished on the heels of race winner Luca Nicholson, who had bridged to an earlier 3-rider break at a kilometre to go, with Harry finishing 13th – his best ride to date in a Nat B – Luke Mannings 22nd, Ben Arey – fresh from 6th place in the previous day’s Yorkshire crit champs – 26th, Dan 46th and Kaleb 51st.

Good work from all in a very fast race – one rider’s Strava showed 46kph average – and a strong showing by the team who were in evidence keeping the moves under control.
Elsewhere it was a fantastic weekend for the under-16 girls, with Phoebe taking the win at Darley Moor and Rosie taking silver in a very fast sprint in the Yorkshire crit champs.
